We're off to Paphos!

 06-01-21, Tuesday

Living with a coffee drinker eventually takes it toll!  But you sure can get a lot done if you don't sleep! And you get to watch the city wake up!

The last of the fireworks

I guess they are apartments!

Wakey Wakey!

I'm all packed and ready to decamp a couple of hours before I plan to wake Ammar! As it happens he awakens on his own. Yay!  go down to breakfast while he has his coffee and gets packed.  I think he probably had cold pizza for breakfast, which I would ordinarily have thought a great idea;  but I remember what's waiting for me downstairs!

Yes, that is Nutella on that mini crepe!

When I'm finished I take the rest of my cappuccino back upstairs and we enjoy the time we have before leaving for the bus to Paphos.  The website says it leaves at 12:30, so there is no rush.  Eventually we go downstairs to pay our bill and have the front desk call us a taxi.

There is a bus station of sorts.  At least there is a coffee machine and chairs outside and the weather is gorgeous.  Apparently the website is not quite accurate.  The bus to Paphos is actually due at 1:30;  but it's no problem.  We would just be sitting on the bus talking and now we are sitting in the breeze talking!

Across the parking lot from the bus depot

This plant is valiantly trying to be a topiary!

The bus arrives promptly at 1:30 and we buy our tickets and board.  I would like to take pictures  (surprised??) and Ammar finds us seats where I can open the curtain without disturbing anyone in seats in front or behind us.

There's so little yard;  but so much is growing there!

Lots and lots of weathered limestone

So many of the roadways are lined with oleander!

Farm land

It's about an hour trip and we are in another tourist town - and we're tourists, so that works.  There are several cabs waiting for customers and one takes us to the Mayfair Hotel.  It's only a couple of kilometers away and I'm relieved that I didn't make a terrible choice!

While I get us registered, Ammar goes off to buy some chips.  The lady at the desk is British and is quite tickled to speak with someone who speaks English as their first language.  She loves my hair and I extoll the virtues of being retired.  She can't wait!  We do a lot of laughing and giggling and Ammar comes back just in time to finish filling out his part of the registration form.

We pass by the pool and find our way to the lift and to room 301.  It is quite large but has little in the way of counter/desk space.  However the bed is the largest one we've had so far!  The bathroom is similarly lacking in horizontal storage space;  but we'll figure it out!

The first order of business (well, after Ammar does some real business) is to take a nap!  Great bed!!  When we wake up it's dinner time and I call the front desk to see about a recommendation and to ask for a cab.  The young man suggests the Ocean Basket and even makes our reservation.  When we come downstairs our driver is waiting and we're off for seafood!!

The sauces are garlic, something really spicy, and delicious house-made tartar sauce.

Sunset

Always working!

Finally we figure out that our fried, breaded, butterfly shrimp is called crumbed prawn tails.

lap kitty!!

grilled salmon with vegetables - SO good!

Cod and chips

Two more restaurant cats

There are several restaurants around this central fountain.

So pretty in the evening!

There's a wonderful breeze!  In fact, it's almost chilly!  The food is great;  there are restaurant cats;  life is good.  After dinner we take a little walk and find a convenience store/souvenir shop where we can buy some water and iced tea (I was wrong the other day.  He's drinking iced tea with lemon, not lemonade) and whatever.  We set out in search of a cab ride home; but the one cab we find has no driver.  We stop by a taverna and after a bit I ask the maitre d' where we can find a cab.  He calls one for us!  He's there in less than five minutes and we're home shortly after!

Tomorrow we are to meet Myra from the Cyprus Taste Tours for our adventure in the Troodos Mountains.  We'll need to have had breakfast and be ready to go at 8:55.  Shouldn't be a problem!  It's been another lovely day!
